April 2008 CITP Chair Letter

Dear CITP Credential Holder:

Establishing a vital credential takes more than craftyadvertising and the identification of a genuine market need. It requires outreach and advocacy; promotion to audiences outside of the core constituency. It also requires community-building and the creation of an environment in which members are free to network, connect and exchange. The CITP team has been busy with several initiatives to benefit you and help create a more active and dynamic CITP Community.

CITP Networking Week: May 15-22 – Attend a Local Session

Join the CITP Community at one of seven networking events being hosted across the country. Interact with local professionals, share your experiences, and forge valuable relationships that you can leverage when you need advice, specialized expertise or best practices. Participate in an open dialogue and discuss critical technology issues and trends affecting the profession. Bring a colleague or co-worker. There is no fee to attend.

CITP community leaders and IT experts are invited to come and share their knowledge and experiences. Discussion topics include:

  • What are CITP professionals doing to mitigate technology risks in their respective industry?
  • What are the CITP’s primary concerns from the perspective of the AICPA’s 2008 Top Technology Initiatives list?
  • What does the future hold?

By joining LinkedIn, you’ll be connected to an elite network of IT-Accounting professionals.  Browse community profiles, find the specialized expertise you need to complement you practice or engagement, or share your own profile and elicit advice and new opportunities.

To join the CITP group, visit http://www.linkedin.com/e/gis/80875/2D28007F8820. Display your CITP credential and IT Section badges, and let potential clients know that you possess the multidisciplinary skills necessary to help them achieve tangible business results from their deployment and use of technology. If you are not a LinkedIn member, it’s easy to create a new profile. Just follow the step-by-step instructions on the LinkedIn home page.

And They’re Off! CITP State Society Challenge Update

The 2008 CITP Challenge is designed to increase awareness of the CITP credential at the state level by enlisting the help of CPA societies and their technology committees in “getting the word out.”

States participating this year include Arizona, Alaska, California, Florida, Georgia, Hawaii, Indiana, Iowa, Kentucky, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, New Jersey, North Dakota, Ohio, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Texas and Virginia.

Participants will compete for recognition in one of two categories:

  1. Largest Increase of CITPs: The state with the largest net increase in the number of CITPs during the measurement period.
  2. Largest Percentage Increase of CITPs: The state with the largest net percentage in the number of CITPs during the measurement period.

Individual states will be recognized in two phases. The top finishers in each category through April 30 will each receive two complimentary passes to TECH+ 2008, while the top finishers through July 31 will each receive $500 gift certificates.

Thus far, participating states have contributed 106 new credential holders. Help strengthen the credential from the ground up by supporting this important grassroots effort. For more information, contact Janis Wong.
