Member Profile

After Bryon K. Patrick graduated from the Salisbury State University in 1999, with a degree in accounting, he started out with a small accounting firm in Annapolis, Maryland where he became intimately involved with the IT management of their network.  While working at the small firm, he earned his CPA.  After juggling both hats of a CPA and Network Administrator he moved on to KAWG&F to concentrate on being an accountant.  He started his career with KAWG&F in August 2003 as an In-Charge Accountant.  Due to his IT background from his previous work, he quickly became recognized as the go-to resource for IT related questions.  After a multitude of events, exactly 12 months after starting with KAWG&F, he was asked if he would be interested in moving into the IT department as a liaison between the accountants and the IT department.   Bryon was seen as someone that could translate the technological to the accounting side and vice versa, and this role was the perfect fit.  Bryon demonstrated finesse at interpreting the languages of the two realms, IT and Accounting; that set him apart from the rest and was asked to release all of his responsibilities as an accountant and put through all his efforts in the IT department.

Bryon took on his new challenge with determination to perform the job to the highest of standards and in February 2005 attended a 2 week training course and successfully passed the 7 exams required to earn the MCSE 2003 certification.  At the time there were only 27,000 MCSE 2003 worldwide; to date there are only 68,000.  After achieving his MCSE, he was promoted to IT Manager and has been set with the responsibility of managing all things IT at KAWG&F.

In his role as IT Manager, he’s charged with the responsibility of overseeing and directing a department of 5 technologists that manage, maintain and support a network for 100+ employees in 4 different locations.  Within the same year Bryon earned his MCSE certification, he applied for the CITP credential.  He saw the opportunity of becoming a credential holder as one that would open up networking opportunities and provide him access to the online resources made available through the IT Section of the AICPA.  What made the credential even more appealing to Bryon was that he would be able to distinguish himself as both a CPA and IT professional.  The opportunity to highlight his breadth of skill in two competencies and become a part of group of peers was very enticing.  The various tools and information he’s tapped into as a CITP has benefited him in that it enables him to service his role at his fullest capability.

Bryon’s recommendation to those considering applying for the CITP credential is that if you possess the knowledge and experience, you shouldn’t question your next move.  The network of elite professionals and the access to an immense amount of data should clinch your decision to apply.
