2001 was the last year that the AICPA compiled its Top 10 Technologies list using the group decision support system lab process. Although this process was very powerful for building consensus, it limited participation in the process to those who could attend the lab in person.
This list was released in January 2001, and provides a snapshot of the evolving state of web-based technologies.
The top 10 issues for 2001 were:
- Information security and controls
- E-business
- Electronically-based business and financial reporting
- Privacy
- Training and technology competency
- Disaster recovery
- Qualified IT personnel
- Quality of service
- Electronic audit trail
- Application service provider (ASP)
